“Autopoietic Garden” is a space where the Anthropocene’s least noticed actors find a voice: fabric offcuts, threads, objects set aside. They begin to lead lives of their own. They imitate nature not out of spite, but out of a need for beauty and a need to matter. They take on organic forms. They do not truly bloom, but they seem to dream of it, and there is something subversive in that dream: it is not nature that gives way to the artificial, but waste that aspires to be nature.

Poetry performance performans by Cezary Markiewicz and Krystian Zakrzewski, the creators of TARGOWISKO MYŚLI. Inspired by the diversity of environments within the exhibition, they prepared a poetic journey through “Autopoietic Garden.”
Autopoiesis
—the capacity of living systems to regenerate from within—is the starting point here, not a metaphor. The materials used in the works are not merely raw matter: they are an assemblage that learns anew how to live. Each form arises from relations—between fibre and wire, between the natural and the synthetic—and in those relations finds its own way of enduring.

Attentiveness
At the centre of this process is tenderness—toward the material, its history, and what may still come from it. Working on each form is a gesture of care: slow weaving, joining, giving new shape to what has found a second life here. It is a kind of attentiveness in which care for matter and care for the world become a single gesture.
The exhibition unfolds across several spaces, each proposing a different way of looking at the relationship between nature and the synthetic:
